New York State is also implementing One Stop Job Centers which are offering training in association with Worker Career Centers. One of the Worker Career Centers is located in the Department of Labor Building (on 54 across from old Studio 54). Telephone number (212) 647-1900. The Dept of Labor has contracted with this non-profit company to implement New York State's one-stop job center If you are not working and eligible for unemployment, go in and register for the training. The "Required Documentation" sheet that the WCC hands out lists the following: 1. Proof of Employment Eligibility. Birth Certificate, American Passport, Resident Aliens Card, or Naturalization Papers. 2. Social Security Card 3. Proof of Unemployment Status. Lay-Off Notice, Termination letter, or Unemployment Insurance print out. 4. Proof of Address. Rent receipt of Lease, Utility Bill, Computer Printout from other Gov Agencies, or Drivers License 5. Only When Applicable. Selective Service, Name Change, Public Assistance ID and or Resume. You must have accumulated 15 weeks of unemployment over the years that you have been temping or simply unable to find any work. |

The Dept of Labor/WCC also have an exciting program called the SEP program (I believe). On this program you are allowed to and given support and assistance in creating your own business. As part of this program you are allowed to simultaneiously collect unemployment for one year while you start your business. |
